Thinking of Undergoing Plastic Eye Surgery? When the subject of surgery comes to mind, this usually means taking something out and replacing this with something new. This worked very well in the 1970’s to the present for people who want to look perfect. Aside from breast implants or other techniques to look young again, the person can also have something done with the eyes. This procedure is called Blepharosplasty. This is a cosmetic plastic eye surgery procedure done to change the upper or lower eyelid by removing tissue in the surrounding areas. This will eliminate eye bags often seen in people who are overworked which can also help old people see again due to overhanging skin. This is very popular in Southeast Asia since many are born with just a single lid or have creases in the eyelid which can be done in one to three hours. The recovery period could last a couple of weeks to a few months. It is only after this time that the person and the doctor can see the improvement. There are certain things that need to be done before, during and after plastic eye surgery. 1. The person must take any pain killers such as aspirin or herbal medicines for two weeks prior to the operation. This will only interfere with the recovery process and increase bleeding which is not good when on is on the table. 2. Tanning salons and sun bathing should be avoided since this could cause problems in and disrupt healing in the face. 3. Should the person get sick, the doctor must be informed immediately to find out if the operation will push through or needs to be rescheduled. 4. The face must be clean of make up and other cosmetics hours before surgery. This should be washed off using water and not with creams or oils. The person must also wash the hair and wear comfortable clothes to feel relaxed before going to the hospital. 5. Similar to other lab tests or operations done on other patients, the person must not eat or drink anything during the morning of the surgery. 6. The patient will have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days after the operation. A friend or a family member can provide company during the recovery period. The person will only be allowed liquids on the first day after surgery then normal eating can follow. 7. It will be a good idea to bring a pair of sunglasses to be worn after the procedure since people will surely notice the cuts and incisions on the face upon leaving the hospital. 8. An icepack should also be applied to stop the swelling and the blue and black discoloration often found after the operation. 9. The person will also have to apply eye drops or ointment if the vision is blurred. This is part of the healing process and will normalize after a few hours. 10. The person should do anything but simply stay in bed. This means the other chores in the house must be done by someone else until the doctor tells the person that life can the way it was before. Plastic eye surgery is a painless procedure that can be done as long as all the lab tests check out. The results are long term and will all only pay off by doing the things needed before, during and after the operation.
